How does your audio quality stack up?
Google said on its company blog, “One of the biggest challenges to a great video meeting is the audio quality. Conference rooms today come in all shapes and sizes and that can provide a challenge for acoustics. Additionally, a poor Internet connection can hamper voice quality in videoconference calls.”
Contributing writer Frank Griffin, @ ‘The Conferencing Zone‘ says: “The way Skype has managed to seamlessly move from a consumer product to one that is now being used by enterprises has not escaped the attention of Google and other players in the segment. With so many companies providing conferencing, quality is becoming the biggest differentiator, which explains Google’s acquisition of Limes Audio and its TrueVoice solution to help improve the audio quality on Hangouts and Chromebox for Meetings.” ‘.
So, audio is important? “Yes!”, says Steve Jassmann, Vice President at Momentum Conferencing, “Solid audio conferencing is a crucial aspect to a successful online business meeting. And with the introduction of easy-to-use (and access) video conferencing, we are regularly approached by business professionals who are concerned with being able to see the other person; yet many fail to recognize the importance of the audio aspect, and that if you can’t hear the other person, your meetings will fall short of excellent.”
The conferencing tide is changing however.
Now that the big players are coming to terms with all the well-known business class components (by adding/improving things like ‘audio’), quality conferencing will become more ubiquitous than ever; but we are not there yet. In 2016, Google upgraded Hangout to 25 concurrent users in HD video for Work/Education. The new Google Hangouts app on iOS integrates a Google Voice number to some extent, but on Android the SMS support in Hangouts doesn’t fully integrate with Google Voice for calls or texts.
Momentum Conferencing only offers fully integrated packages, that even allow the meeting to call out to an attendee; this is called “click-to-call” technology and removes the need to have passcodes when accessing via a browser or the solution’s app.
